Here at VIP we deal with tents everyday. We focus on convenience, durability, and most of all – visual impact.
However, tents have had a place in society for thousands of years, even stretching back to biblical times. The Ancient Hebrews, including Abraham, Isaac, and Moses lived a nomadic lifestyle. This meant that they were constantly moving from place to place and while doing so, they lived in tents. The sacred place where the Ark of the Covenant was kept in was called a tabernacle, which translates to “tent” or “place of dwelling.”
If we fast forward a few thousand years, we can see that tents were still in use, this time in a medieval setting. Knights would take them on hunts and use them as command bases during times of war. Tents were also set up during tournaments so the knights had a place to prepare for competitions. You can imagine that the art of promotional tents was in full swing as tournament vendors vied for attention from the crowds in order to sell their food, mead, and other wares.
Fast forward again, this time to the Korean War. Tents played an important role in the form of Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals, which were used to save thousands of lives. These mobile hospitals became famous in the hit movie and television show, M*A*S*H. A large red cross promoted the fact that the tent was used for medical purposes. Whether it was war or peace, as a shelter in the wilderness or as a home, tents have been used by humans for millennia.
In modern times, tents are used for many things. Small lightweight tents can be used for backpacking, and huge, colorful tents that can seat thousands are used for circuses. At VIP, we see tents and canopies as a way to grab a potential customer’s attention. Modern promotional tents are used in many places ranging from sporting events to trade shows. The materials now are also much better than those used in the past. Animal skins, canvas, and wood have been replaced by polyester, titanium, and steel. The uses and materials for tents may have changed over the years, but they are still as versatile and important as ever.
What the tents of the future may consist of we don’t know, although we have a couple of ideas. Solar panels might become popular, enabling generators to be left at home. They will surely be made of lighter and more durable materials, but what else? They could be able to change color or collapse into a backpack – the future will hold incredible things for the world of tents and the possibilities are exciting.
There is one thing that we do know for certain – Visual Impact Promotions will be at the forefront of advancing technologies in order to bring you the best promotional tent products possible.
